The Ritual Method
Use of method in cultural history of Absinthe in France and Switzerland before the ban in the early 1900s.
You will need following equipment for this method
Use of an Absinthe glass
An Absinthe spoon is designed for use with Absinthe.
A cube of sugar is taken
Iced water for Absinthe.
The ritual recipe in use:-
Take Absinthe in 25-50ml quantity.
On top of the glass rest your Absinthe spoon to place the sugar cube on it.
To a slow drip set the tap on the fountain over the sugar cube. The Absinthe mixes with sugar cube and water.
Mixture of water and Absinthe makes the drink louche. The louche effect is caused by the essential oils such as wormwood contained in Absinthe which is soluble in alcohol but non soluble in water.
Stir to enjoy your Absinthe.
Preposition of water to Absinthe should be between 3:1 and 5:1
“Glass in a Glass” method is the Ritual method. In this method place a small glass containing the Absinthe into a larger glass and drip water into the small glass which then overflows into the larger glass. The larger glass contains water and all of the Absinthe.
The method used by Bohemian
For this method you will need:-
– An Absinthe glass
– An Absinthe Spoon for serving absinthe
Take a cube of sugar
Take a lighter or match
Iced water needed
The glass should be filled with 25-50ml of Absinthe.
Add sugar cube to soak in Absinthe and rest on the spoon.
Set light to the sugar cube and allow it to caramelize, melt and drip into Absinthe.
Absinthe is added to iced water to louche it.
This method has become very popular in recent times especially in Absinthe bars in the Czech Republic. This method was scorned by many drinkers.
